If there’s one thing I’ve learned as a health coach, fitness trainer, and metaphysical practitioner, it’s this: the body is not broken, it never truly is. It’s actually a brilliantly intelligent system. Even in our toughest seasons, when we’re sick, in pain, or completely out of alignment, our body is still working for us, not against us.
But we don’t always hear that message. The traditional approach often zeroes in on “fixing” symptoms instead of tuning into the deep, built-in intelligence the body holds. Healing, however, doesn’t always come from doing more or adding more. Sometimes, it’s about listening more closely, slowing down, and giving the body space to do what it’s naturally designed to do…heal.
And as you read through this article, that’s exactly the theme you’ll notice: taking the right kind of action to support the body in doing its job. Believe it or not, it’s much simpler than you think. It’s not just about supplements or the latest wellness trends. It’s about making real, intentional shifts in your life.
The Body Knows EXACTLY What to Do
From the moment we’re born, our bodies are on our side. Got a cut? The skin starts clotting and closing. Catch a cold? The immune system kicks in, launching a microscopic army of white blood cells to defend and repair. Like I said before, the body is intelligent, it was built to help us move through this world, handle what life throws at us, and adapt to our environment.
What we often forget is that this healing wisdom is always running in the background. The body is constantly repairing tissues, balancing hormones, detoxing, and regenerating. When you really stop and think about it, it’s kind of wild, actually, it’s pretty amazing, right?
But here’s the thing, our modern lifestyles often get in the way of that natural brilliance. High stress, poor sleep, processed food, lack of movement, and emotional overload can confuse or shut down the body’s signals. The more noise we throw at it, the harder it becomes for the body to do what it’s meant to do.
And like I’ve shared in a past article, there are certain core elements you can focus on to help turn that switch back on so you can get back to feeling GOOD. But don’t worry I will talk about it in this article as well!
Activating the Body’s Intelligence
Healing isn’t just about what you do, it’s about creating the space for your body to do what it already knows how to do.
What you’re about to read might sound familiar. It’s foundational stuff, things we’ve all heard before. But let’s be honest…you probably aren’t doing it consistently. And that’s where the difference lies. You have to actually master the basics if you want to experience real results. That takes commitment, time, and showing up even when it feels boring or slow.
So please, don’t brush this off just because you’ve heard it before or because it didn’t “work” the first time. Try again. Come back to the simple things and this time, give them a real chance. That’s where the magic happens.
“Start with believing in your body’s innate capacity to heal. Your body has an incredible intelligence and wants to move toward wellness—this isn’t just optimistic thinking; it’s founded in medical science.” – Dr. Jill Carnahan | HigherDOSE

Here are a few powerful ways to support your body’s natural healing process:
1. Breathe deeply and consciously.
Breath is one of the fastest ways to shift your nervous system. When you breathe slow and deep, you activate the parasympathetic state aka rest, digest, and heal. Try 5 minutes of deep belly breathing in the morning or before bed.
2. Move with purpose, not punishment.
Gentle strength work, walking, mobility, and restorative practices help your body circulate blood, lymph, and energy. You don’t need to crush workouts to feel good, you need to move in a way that feels nourishing. I have learned this concept deeply because of my autoimmune condition, and it’s a life change.
3. Eat real, whole foods.
Food isn’t just fuel…it’s information. Real food tells the body, “Hey, we’re safe and supported.” Processed foods, on the other hand, confuse the system and I know how prevalent it is in Yuma, AZ. Think of every meal as a message to your cells. Yes! Your cells need input, give it the right one, and you are solid.
4. Prioritize rest and sleep.
Rest is real medicine. Your body does its deepest healing while you sleep, so don’t treat it like an afterthought. Aim for 7 to 9 hours of solid, quality sleep, and give yourself moments of rest throughout the day too.
Burnout won’t bring healing. I get it, most people are stuck in that hustle or survival mode, constantly pushing and grinding. But if you want to be here for the long haul, feeling good and showing up for yourself and your loved ones, rest has to be part of your daily rhythm. Sleep. Slow down. Make it non-negotiable.
5. Tune into your body, not just your schedule.
Lastly, your body is always talking to you. Fatigue, tension, cravings, emotions…these aren’t random annoyances, they’re subtle messages. They’re clues. When you start practicing awareness and actually listening, you’ll begin to understand what your body is really asking for. And trust me, it’s always asking for something.
Just last week, for example, I noticed my tongue felt dry and my lips were starting to chap. You know what that meant? I was dehydrated. So I tuned in, gave my body what it needed…water, coconut water, electrolytes and just like that, I felt good again. That happened because I listened!
The more we trust the body’s intelligence and give it what it needs, the more we open the door to healing. It doesn’t always look flashy, but it’s powerful. And it’s available to all of us. right here, right now!
And I wanna let you know that you’re not broken. You’re brilliant. Let’s give your body the space to show you just how strong and wise it really is.
